Filter Trees for Managing Spatial Data over a Range of Size Granularities

چکیده
We introduce a new file organization for the storage and manipulation of spatial (or multidimensional) data that is able to execute spatial join operations with great efficiency. The Filter Tree information structure is a hierarchical organization that tends to separate spatial entities by size, placing larger entities at the higher levels of the Filter Tree, and smaller entities at lower levels. Within each level, index entries for the entities are ordered by a space-filling curve (Hilbert curve). This allows the algorithms to use bulk I/O requests, exploiting the locality in the index information, and minimizing the number of I/O transfers from disk. We provide algorithms for constructing Filter Trees, for performing range queries on a Filter Tree, and for performing spatial joins between a pair of Filter Trees. Finally, we include results from experiments using a prototype implementation of Filter Trees to treat both synthetic and real sets of spatial entities. Our experimental results show that full spatial joins can always be done more efficiently with Filter Trees than with current competitive methods, and that in some cases the improvement in performance is very large. Comparison of Fixed-size and Variable-sized Windows for the Estimation of Tree Crown Position
Tree crown recognition with high spatial resolution remotely sensed imagery provides useful information relating the number and distribution of trees in a forest. A common technique used to identify tree locations uses a local maximum (LM) filter with a static-sized (user-specified) moving window. LM techniques operate on the assumption that high local radiance values represent the centroid of ...
متن کاملMulti - granular spatio - temporal object models : concepts andresearch
The capability of representing spatio-temporal objects is fundamental when analysing and monitoring the changes in the spatial configuration of a geographical area over a period of time. An important requirement when managing spatio-temporal objects is the support for multiple granularities. In this paper we discuss how the modelling constructs of object data models can be extended for represen...

Assessment of forest structure and their spatial patterns are essential for managing and evaluation of forest ecosystems. This study was conducted at the Zagros forests in Kermanshah to evaluate the forest structural characteristics and their spatial distribution. Data was collected from 25 plots (400 m2) in a 100 m × 100 m systematic sampling grid. The spacing between plots was 50 m. In each p...

Today, we cannot ignore the role of trees in the quality of human life, so that the earth is inconceivable for humans without the presence of trees. In addition to their natural role, urban trees are also very important in terms of visual beauty. Aerial imagery using unmanned platforms with very high spatial resolution is available today. متن کاملQuerying Multiple Temporal Granularity Data
Managing and querying information with varying temporal granularities is an important problem in databases. Although there is a substantial body of work on temporal granularities for the relational data model [11], a comprehensive framework is lacking for the object-oriented paradigm. To the best of our knowledge, a formal treatment of temporal queries with multiple granularities has not been c...
